In vitro diagnostics (IVD) refers to tests performed on samples such as blood, urine, or tissue taken from the human body. These tests are used to detect diseases, conditions, or infections, providing critical information for diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment. Unlike in vivo diagnostics, IVD tests are conducted outside the living organism, often in controlled laboratory environments or at the point of care.
